Students to Brave the Shave for Cancer

13 Jun 2018

The simple act of shaving your head is a powerful way to show your support for someone with cancer. It takes courage which is why it’s called ‘Brave the Shave’!

Four of our students have created online fundraising pages to enable others to support their act of bravery by making a donation to help people with cancer.

The money raised helps provide free supportive care services to people going through cancer treatment, funds vital cancer research as well as developing programmes to help reduce cancer for future generations. For more info, check out the websites www.cancernz.org.nz and www.canteen.org.nz

You can donate online, just click the links below.

For students, you can also donate during Week 8 morning teas and lunch or on the day.

In July 2018 I will be shaving my head to raise money for New Zealand Cancer Society Northland Division. This money will provide vital services that help to support cancer patients and their families as well as funding important scientific cancer research. All donations and contributions are much appreciated. Please share my page to help me reach my goal!

Back in 2016, I took part in Walking Stars, a midnight half marathon through Auckland City which helped to raise money for Cancer Society NZ. Then just over a year ago I chopped my hair from my waist to my chin and donated over 14 inches or 36 centimetres of hair to Freedom Wigs with the proceeds going towards Cancer Society. This is just the next stage of my fundraising journey!

Throughout my life, I’ve had many loved one’s battle with cancer from my grandparents to even close family friends of mine. Sadly, my Poppa lost his life to it. So, unfortunately, I know what it’s like to have a loved one go through cancer, however, I don’t know what it’s like to physically go through it. That’s why I will be shaving my head.

My name is Sam Clark, I’m 17 years old, and on June 27 my friend Delores Crowe and a couple of other college students and I will be shaving our heads to help raise awareness for teens going through cancer as well as donating our hair to make wigs for people going through chemo and who want to feel happier in their skin. We will be shaving our heads in front of our school, Botany Downs Secondary College, underneath the bridge.

We want to help make these kids’ lives better in any way we can so we will be raising money for CanTeen in any way that we can. By donating at least $1, you can make these kids’ lives so much better. CanTeen is a non-profit organisation which means that all the money donated goes straight to helping those in need. Without being government supported they need all the help they can get.

Please donate so CanTeen can make a difference to those kids going through cancer or who are struggling with a loved one fighting so they can have a happy, loving life.
