SUMMARY:New Parents and Year 9 Camp Information Evening
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]We would very much like to meet all the parents of our new students and are taking this opportunity to invite you to a Whānau-based Parent Information Evening followed by a Year 9 Camp Meeting. The evening will commence at 6.30 pm in the PAC. \n\nThis is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s Whānau Leader where they will introduce you to the processes and expectations of our College including how to access important information on the web portal\, as well as answering any questions you may have. \nOur Whānau system is at the heart of the College and is the foundation of our holistic approach to student education and pastoral care. Upon enrolment\, students are placed in a Whānau where they become part of our extended family of teachers and students of all year levels and they remain in this Whānau during their years at college\, nurturing a sense of belonging. \nYear 9 Camp Meeting\nThe second half of the meeting will also provide important information regarding the upcoming Year 9 Camp. \nIf you do not have a Year 9 student attending camp then this will be an opportunity for you to depart. \nIt is expected that the evening will conclude around 8 pm.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Sea Week
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nSeaweek – Kaupapa Moana – is New Zealand’s annual national week celebrating the sea.\nSeaweek is an opportunity for all ages to discover the many ways that our lives are connected to the sea. In March every year\, we encourage and promote events and community action projects to inspire and enable this connection. \nSeaweek is coordinated nationally by Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre (MERC) and is made possible through the work of a large network of volunteers with support from a wide range of individuals\, groups\, businesses and organisations. We’re grateful for the collaborative work which enables us to offer and promote opportunities which inspire kiwis to take time to connect with the sea. \nSeaweek History\nSeaweek has been a regular fixture in Aotearoa New Zealand for over 30 years. It was first held by the Marine Education Society of Australasia in 1992. From the late 1990s through to 2019\, New Zealand Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE) coordinated the event through its nationwide network. In 2019 MERC started to work alongside NZAEE to deliver Seaweek and in 2023 custodianship was more formally passed onto MERC. Each year\, Seaweek collaborates with a wide range of groups across Aotearoa New Zealand to organise a variety of accessible opportunities for all to immerse themselves in the marine environment and learn about the ocean. Seaweek hopes to inspire people to engage with nature\, explore the ocean and develop a deep sense of connection to our environment so that all are inspired and empowered to be kaitiaki.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Senior Ball Tickets on Sale
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\nOur Student Ball Committee is excited to present this year’s Senior School Ball\, to be held at the Ellerslie Event Centre on Friday 8 May.\n \nEligibility to Attend\nAttendance at the Ball is a privilege for all Year 12 and Year 13 students. We expect students to consistently demonstrate BDSC’s Our Way values: Respect\, Excellence\, Integrity\, and Care for others. Behaviours that do not reflect these values—such as poor conduct\, poor uniform standards\, concerning unjustified absences\, or low engagement scores—may affect eligibility. \nStudents with outstanding charges from previous years (e.g.\, lost textbooks\, unpaid trip costs\, or unreturned sports equipment) must clear any amounts owing before purchasing tickets.\n\nOutside Partner Applications \nYear 12 and 13 students may apply to bring a partner from outside BDSC. The Outside Partner Ball Invitation Form can be downloaded from the Student Hub: Senior Ball Outside Partner.pdf \nCompleted forms must be submitted to Mrs Clark at Level 2 Reception by Wednesday 18 March\, before tickets go on sale. All applications will be vetted\, including parent contact\, and approved forms will be available for collection from Mrs Clark. \nNote: If the proposed partner is a former BDSC student\, attendance may be declined if fees are outstanding or if they have previously failed to uphold our school values. All partners must be Year 12 or above. \nTicket Sales\nTickets are $135.00 each\, covering all Ball costs\, including venue hire\, catering\, DJ\, photography\, decorations\, and ticketing. We work hard to keep the cost as low as possible. \nTickets can be purchased from the Finance Centre\, from Monday 23 March to Thursday 23 April. \nLay-by is available with a minimum $35 deposit\, with full payment due by Thursday 23 April. Students must present a signed Code of Conduct (available on Student Hub) before purchasing a ticket. Tickets will be issued on Friday 8 May\, following the Ball assembly. \nVenue Safety and Expectations\nSenior Leadership\, teaching staff\, and professional security will be present throughout the evening. Students may not leave the venue before the Ball concludes. \nCollege rules apply at all times\, including for outside partners. Security will check bags\, pockets\, and jackets for prohibited items. Note that the venue prohibits chewing gum\, lip gloss\, and mints. \nFailure to comply with the BDSC Code of Conduct may result in the student and their partner being asked to leave without refund\, and further disciplinary action may follow. \nStudents must not consume alcohol beforehand. If alcohol is detected at any point\, parents will be contacted to collect their child. A breathalyser will be used at entry. \nThe College does not authorise any pre- or post-Ball functions. Parents are encouraged to ensure appropriate transport arrangements and safe pick-up by midnight\, as staff also need to return home to their whānau. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact a member of the Senior Leadership Team. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
