Head of Counselling

We are seeking a Head of Counselling for a permanent position of 42 weeks per year (term time 40 weeks plus two weeks during term breaks) who may also be a registered teacher. Reporting to the Deputy Principal in charge of Student Services, we seek an experienced Head of Counselling to join a collaborative student support services team. The Head of Counselling is a pivotal role within our team, ensuring that students’ needs are met in a coordinated, proactive, and supportive manner.
This is a leadership role, and our Head of Counselling will:
- Have the ability to build empathy and advocate for diverse adolescents to achieve optimum outcomes.
- Ensure processes that effectively leverage all available resources within our Whanau-based school to provide the best outcome for our students and school community.
- Be a leader, able to build trusting relationships with both students, senior management, and staff.
- Work effectively within our wider pastoral care network (Counsellors, Nurse, Whānau Leaders, Careers Advisor, SENCO, Deputy Principals etc.).
As part of the Student Support Services Team, you will be an NZAC Member with experience in risk assessment, a range of therapeutic approaches, referral processes, and knowledge of, and interaction within a greater local network.
There is an expectation of some work required during term breaks.
Short-listed applicants will be required to undergo a Police Vet once every three years.
Applicants for this position must have NZ Residency or a valid NZ Work Visa and a clean driver’s licence.
