Picnic Day

December 5, 2024 @ 9:05 am - 2:00 pm

9.05am – 12:15pm followed by shared whānau lunch 12:15 – 1:15 pm. Students then based in their whānaus and school will end at the slightly earlier time of 2pm.

A fun day held annually in the last week of Term 4. The morning consists of going around in your classes competing in 13 short fun games, such as ‘Sack Race’, ‘3- Legged Race’ and the famous “Sponge Relay’.

The cafe will be open during lunchtime but only selling the basics – drinks, juices and potato chips.

What to bring

  • If organised by your Whānau, students to bring a shared lunch to their Whānau – items as advised by your Whānau Leader/Tutor
  • Suncream
  • Hat
  • Water bottle
  • if needed, antihistamines. Only our nurse can administer them in case of emergency, and hay fever can be especially high this time of year.
  • Great attitude

Most of the day is spent outside, please remember to be Sun Smart.

What to wear

Students are permitted to travel to school in their correct sports gear – BDSC PE shorts (no exceptions) with BDSC PE t-shirt.

Face paint is ok if used sparingly and sensibly. To be applied once you are at school in your tutor classes.

Format

  • All students to report to your whānau promptly at 9.05 am to drop off food and do roll call.
  • Classes rotate around the 12 events in the morning.
  • Year 9 and 10 classes will be ranked from 1st to 12th for each activity. 1st = 12 points, 2nd = 11 points etc.
  • At the end of the day, there will be a Year 9 and Year 10 winner, and then the overall winner, which will go towards the Whānau Shield.
  • There are bonus points awarded for behaviour, enthusiasm, teamwork etc as well as following dress-code.

Potential activities include

Chest Shuffle, Sack Race, Hoop Exchange, Lunar Landing, Sponge Relay, Noodle Hockey, Skittles, 3-Legged Race, and Hoopla.
