BDSC students Hao Chen Li, Yasthir Singh, and Francesca Long took part in the NZ Secondary Schools Business Case Competition held on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June 2018 from 9 am to 4 pm, with an end result of Top-3, defeating 18 other schools! They were awarded a Certificate of Excellence, $300 cash prize and a trophy.
What the competition involved
Each day, students were given a business case study. In teams, they had to identify the issues the business was facing, find out whether their current business model was sustainable, what the causes were, come up with innovative solutions (with no internet access), and then present to AUT professors and business leaders.
1st Place: NZD $1000
2nd Place: NZD $600
3rd Place: NZD $300
The New Zealand Secondary School’s Case Competition (NZSSCC) hopes to develop the entrepreneurship skills of high school students while raising awareness of the business issues that companies face worldwide. We aim to provide a competition targeted at secondary schools and students (particularly those who are business-oriented) to develop their skills in producing both innovative and creative solutions to global business problems.
NZSSCC strives to offer an experience to high school students in which their speaking, analytical and teamwork skills can be utilised and developed. Students will need to work under time pressure to solve the cases, which will challenge their creativity, problem-solving abilities and time management skills.
