Within Level 1 Commerce, students are given the experience of putting their business skills to the test and running a business for one lunchtime. Market Day was a great learning experience overall. The build up to the day was tense and chaotic at times, however it was all worth it in the end.
A lot of groups sold out completely, which I think is really great. It shows how everyone has a creative side and the different talents that BDSC has to offer. It was also great to see the range of different products that were on offer and how groups took on the task of having a recyclable element within their products.
In the process of Market Day, we learnt about different marketing strategies, GST; how it works and why we have it, and many other things such as the process of building a product and starting a business.
One of the biggest challenges my group and I faced was our pricing and incorporating GST, but in the end, we got there and still managed to sell all of our products. We went through a lot of trial and error, which helped us get a good understanding of what goes into a business. Market Day turned out to be a success and I feel privileged that I was able to experience something like that.
