SGCNZ Sheilah Winn Festival 2020

Although we have been unable to host the Auckland South and East Sheilah Winn Regional Festival due to Lockdown we are still preparing and rehearsing performances for consideration in the Festival.

Currently one group of 8 year 9 to 11 girls are fully immersed in a teacher directed extract of the tragedy of Hamlet, rehearsing twice weekly since the return to school in order to be ready for their live recording of the performance. The second group are a student-led group with Jake Fanstone, BDSC’s Head Boy Tanishq Ranjith and Shalom De Souza interpreting an extract from the tragedy Macbeth, which explores the role of the supernatural in the rise to power and downfall of the character of Macbeth.

Performances will be filmed live, hopefully in front of an invited audience before 15 June 2020,  and the entries will be sent to a central file, which will then be shared with the Regional assessors.

It has been a huge challenge to revisit work that was first created in Term one prior to Lockdown but the students have been committed to the process, learning much about stage craft and text interpretation.
