TOI Wearable Arts

31 Jul 2024

The TOI Wearable Arts competition for schools in New Zealand is a vibrant showcase of young talent, and creative ākonga. Wearable Arts is not just about fashion – it’s about breaking limits, bringing ideas to life, and nurturing deeper appreciation for artistic expression among inventive young minds.

BDSC had a total of 24 teams participating in TOI this year, showing an exhilarating blend of creativity, problem solving, teamwork, and performance. Inspired by diverse themes of Larger Than Life, Stories of the South Pacific, Year 3024 and Myths, Legends and Fantastic Creatures, students transformed unconventional materials into imaginative masterpieces, blending art, fashion, innovation and most importantly, sustainability. This dynamic event not only highlighted artistic expression in youth but fostered a spirit of originality and boldness among budding avant-garde designers. On the night of the show, the creative atmosphere was electrifying, with performers from Showquest and artists from TOI coming together to showcase their work with each piece telling its own unique story. BDSC left the showcase with nine deserved awards and an enriching experience to help shape the future of art as we know it.
