Trees for Survival

02 Jul 2021

This year the planting day for our Trees for Survival group finally arrived. The weather forecast, however, was less than appealing – thunderstorms and rain. Despite the threatening rain, the Trees for Survival group forged ahead and completed a highly successful planting day at the Water’s farm in Ardmore, Clevedon. Over a thousand native plants, and we all managed to stay dry!

Double the numbers from last year; we had 32 students, two teachers Ms. Julia Rooke and Ms. Edna Jumillarivera, two volunteer university students, and Linzi Hughes, the Trees for Survival Field Worker. Thanks also go to the five Fisher and Paykel staff from the Sustainability and Environmental Innovation team, who joined us for the day. We want to acknowledge their continued support and sponsorship of the school nursery. And last but not least, the Water’s family, who welcomed us onto their farm and provided us all with a fantastic day (and lunch!).

With uncanny timing, the rain started pretty much as soon as the planting day finished. Perfect timing and a great day had by all! We were all proud to have been part of improving our waterways through bush regeneration.
