Fiji Service Trip

07 Jul 2017
Day 1

Off to Fiji to help our sister school Lelean Memorial in Suva.

Day 2

Enjoyed a wonderful visit to Sowani Village. We were accepted into the village in style. Mr Wainiqolo led the Sevu Sevu ceremony for the first time and we were humbled by the warm welcome. Lots of dancing and joy followed.

Day 3

Our students attended Sunday church service at Baker Hall. Beautiful singing followed by a traditional Lovu meal. Lovely to see LMS student Lucy and Deans (Our first BDSC scholarship student)

Our students are loving the experiences and it’s great to see them doing thank you speeches to acknowledge the many things done by our hosts.

Day 4

And this is why we came…

Handing over to Lelean 19 computers, books for the library, an outdoor chess board, sports team uniforms, rugby balls and clothes… painting two classrooms… and making new friends… oh, and learning the school song. A great day!

Day 5
  • Two classrooms painted – tick
  • Attended a maths lesson – tick
  • 16th birthday celebrated – tick
  • Drinking fresh coconuts – tick
  • Farewelling our new friends at Lelean – tick
  • Cuddles with the orphans from Dilkusha Home – tick
  • Small children smuggled into our luggage to bring home – tick

It has been quite a day!

Day 6

What a privilege to be traveling with such a compassionate and hardworking group of students and staff.

This morning we all shared our highlights of yesterday. For many this was the entire day. For some, meeting the students and staff of Dilkusha and the fun and farewells from Lelean stood out.

What was clear was that we have all been touched by the experience.

The big news is that Lelean are planning a visit to us in April 2018! Right now we are on route to Nadi.
