On Wednesday 7 May, the BDSC Chinese classes were fortunate enough to meet Mr Zhao, the head coach of New Zealand Wushu Academy. Coach Zhao visited our school to introduce us to Wushu – commonly known as ‘Kung- Fu’.
With a rich cultural heritage, Wushu empowers individuals with discipline, self-control and physical fitness. Coach Zhao is a professional athlete and one of the most dedicated Wushu coaches in New Zealand who has helped many students reach their full potential.
In our session with him, we learnt a brief history of Wushu and practiced all the basic stances. We also learnt how to use a Chinese fan for self-defence, using it both as a weapon and a shield. It was a really enjoyable experience for everyone who took part and contributed to the lesson.
Thank you, Coach Zhao, for coming to our school and teaching us the basics of Wushu. We are incredibly grateful for your time. Also, we would like to say a big thank you to our Chinese teacher Mrs Kuang for making this opportunity possible for us!
