Discovery Year 9 Camp

18 Mar 2025

We had a great time at our Discovery camp. It was an awesome opportunity to get to know each other better over the course of three days. One of the highlights was the auction night. Not knowing what was under the pots made it exciting to find out what surprise was waiting for us. Whether it was a toilet roll, sweet treats or blue accessories, we all had a great laugh, and there were smiles on our faces.

A big challenge we faced was the flying kiwi, where students were pulled upwards on a rope and left flying in the air. There was only the harness connected to the rope, while the rest of the team held on tightly, with two anchor students at the back. This activity helped build trust and teamwork within the group, where everyone was “connected” together.

We all had a fantastic time at camp, thanks to the teachers, staff and parent helpers who were there to support us, working hard to make it an extraordinary experience for everyone. Overall, we had a great time connecting with one another and taking on challenges to become the best versions of ourselves.

I really enjoyed going to camp because it helped me make new friends and get to know the lead students. My camp highlights were high ropes and mountain biking, these activities gave me joy and adrenaline. The camp food was yummy, and the nachos were my favourite dinner, whilst the hot dogs were the best lunch. During free-time the volleyball net was really entertaining as I played with my new friends. Overall, I really enjoyed going to camp, it will definitely be one of my highlights for the year.

Year 9 Camp was hands down the best camp I’ve ever been to. Mountain biking was my favorite activity; feeling the breeze on my face and the rush of adrenaline in my heart, the sense of accomplishment when you reached the top of a hill made it the best activity at camp. Another highlight of camp was getting to know everybody better. At first it was kind of awkward, but as I got to know everyone, I found that they were actually really fun people, and I enjoyed my time with them. All of the teachers and leaders were super nice, and the food was really good (especially the ice cream). If I had the chance to go to camp a second time, I would sign up in the blink of an eye.
