APO – Discovery Concert

28 May 2021

On Tuesday 18 May, Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 Music students travelled in to the Auckland Town Hall.  While the different schools were walking in and settling down the huge 110-year-old pipe organ was playing. The organ and the character of this old building added a little excitement to the atmosphere. The trip was to see the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s “Discovery” Music Concert.  This concert is an annual event in the APO’s calendar and supports the students’ preparation for several different standards and assessments at each Year Level including composition, arranging, instrumentation, music works and score-reading.

The theme of this year’s concert was Vienna and explored the influence of the city on composers across the centuries. This included music by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Dvorak and a new composition by Rosa Elliot inspired by the idea of the Viennese waltz.
